Texas HS Football Chief Editor
The key favorite in this district will be the Shiner Comanches. Shiner, with plenty of experience and the return of its top player in Kyle Condel
should them in the right direction and back in the state championship hunt. Other than Condel, look for Shiner to utilize the athletic ability of Cody Franke, Matthew Hibbs and D.J. Pustka to guide them through the rigorous season. Defensively, the Comanches will be strong up front with plenty of depth including the services of Kody Selzer, Dalton Handley and Julian Longoria. The strength of the team will likely be in the linebacking cores. Expect Ethan Darilek and Ryan Lawrence to have a very big year in the middle of the defense. Bottom line for Shiner is that if they stay healthy and use their experience to their advantage, they should be state title material.
Pettus, despite lkosing some key players off last year's squad should finish a strong second. But they will have a serious challenge from the likes of Falls City and Flatonia for that honor. This Pettus team is one the school's more talented squads in its history, so expectations could be riding high if they can hold all the cards together in one deck. Outside of Kyle Condel, the best pure athlete in the district could be quartterback Jake Stanley. With a promising young running back in Robert Hudson and the help of J. Briggs Hensley up front, the Eagle offense will be a tough one to stop. Defense will be the key for Pettus and it will be the difference between a strong second place finish or a fight to the finish to the district race. Hensley and Mauro Torres should be the top defensive players in the district.
Falls City, despite their lack of experience on the offensive side of the ball, should be much better than anticipated. Look for sophomore Will Kirchhoff to take over the reigns as the full tiume starter at QB1. The young quarterback will have plenty of key assets to build his confidence around as a solid running game backed by Kyle Johnson, Eliott Dzuik and Kyle Perna steps back into the picture. On the opposite side of the ball, look for Michael Noll, Raylee Urbanczyk and Perna to have solid seasons and become key leaders of a hungry defense.
Flatonia is a team that could cause plenty of havoc in the district race if a team falls asleep at the wheel. Despite having an extremely yung squad, they are a team that has plenty of talent and potential. Key players to watch out of Bulldog camp this season includes WR Hunter Pinney, QB Jordan Williams and RB Adrian Lighterd on the offensive side and LB Chris Migl, DB Pinney and LB Chris Migi on the defensive side. |
