Overall this district will be a district that sees much more experience and much more potential later in the season. Harper, Johnson City, Leakey and Medina all have high expectations of a deeper run in the playoffs. Center Point may have plenty to say when it comes to the district race as well.

Harper will have the honors of being named as the district favorite in 2007 after finishing with an 8-3 mark and a perfect district record in 2006. Returning six on both sides of the ball should also give the Longhorns plenty of hope for the upcoming season. Sammy Winters, who will be stationed in the running back and defensive back positions, should and will be the heart and soul of the Harper Longhorns. Alongside Winters, look for Luke Wolfe out of the backfield to see some valuable time and production after a 600 yard rushing performance last year. For Winters and Wolfe, a "W" will also be beneficial if it translates to more points on the scoreboard and a defense that wiggles its way through the opposition. Other than the Wolfe and Winters, Shane Untermeyer at the defensive end spot looks to place opposing quarterbacks under the microscope.

Johnson City expects to win and win in a very big way. The depth and experience the Eagles have should be the necessary tools that keeps this sqaud motivated for a run at the district championship. Multi-threat rusher Mike Vega returns to the backfield alongside plenty of depth in the receiving core. Cameron Sasko, Ross Hambright, William Fletcher and Logan Mobley will be the prime targets for QB/DB Adrian Trevino. If the Eagles can keep the trenches in shape and well rested, then the offense has the potential to see great things ahead. Speaking of the trenches, up front on the defensive side, the the Eagles will be their big strength come to fruition. How well the defensive front plays, will be the ultimate determining factor on whether Johnson CIty is a regional threat or just a district threat.

Despite being one of the smallest schools in the state, Leakey is a squad that has learned how to deal with adverse conditions and have learned how to win. If they can ignore the size of the schools and stick to the fundamentals, then look for Leakey to be an instant hit and an instant darkhorse. The return of Kyle Green, who rushed for over 1,000 yards last season, should be a very big reason why the Eagles will be district title contenders. The speedy James Fletcher will be taking over the snaps under center as he doubles as the premiere defensive player on the team. And look for Robert Pannell to have a very big season at the linebacker spot.

For Medina and Center Point, overcoming lack of experience or depth will be crucial to their chances at making a run into the playoffs. If wither team can turn up the volume, control the district's top playmakers and and limit their own mistakes, there is a chance that one or both of these teams will find their way into district playoff contention.
