While this district is not one of the elite when it comes to Class 1A Region II, it is a district that seems to quickly gain more and more respect as the day goes on. In this district there are three very solid programs with a mission and determination of being among the best. Once again, the district favorite is Roscoe. Can the Plowboys find greater success or will Albany and/or Winters find itself in the position to surprise the Plowboys at the top?

One of the Roscoe's biggest returns to the roster includes the three Villanueva brothers, WR Nik Joy and Oklahoma-commit Britt Mitchell. The amount of talent and depth that Wes Williams' Plowboys have is just enough to consider them as a prime time state championship contender. Quarterback Jacob Villanueva threw for 1,735 yards and rushed for 853 more yards in 2006 as brother Jared collected 935 of those yards on the receiving end. With Britt Mitchell up front, the Plowboys should see the benefits of a leader and strong offensive trench. On the defensive side of the ball, Roscoe should be looking for the same contributions from its key offensive players. Among the key sleeper prospects in the defensive unit is defensive end Thomas Castro.

Both Albany and Winters should be battling it out for second place. But the order in which they finish, unless on biblical proportions, Roscoe falls flat, will not matter as Winters is the top school in enrollment for the entire district. Albany found itself in the regional finals last season and should find itself in a similar spot providing the boys in the trenches can hold their ground and allow the skill players to make improvements and produce. One such skill position player to be on the look out for is rusher Andy Henson. Don't be surprised if Henson finds his yardage count doubled to what it was in 2006 when he garnered up 780 yards.

Winters could very well be the sleeper of the district. Like Albany, the Blizzard bring back plenty of experience in the trenches. OL/DL Kevin Cooke will be considered as the leader on both sides up front. On the defensive side of the front lines, Cooke will be joined by WIley Guy and sophomore Kenneth Reel. Reel, a sophomore, is already one of the top 2010 prospects in the state. If the skill players such as Julian Perez and Justin Medina find their way through the production lines, Winters may be, again a pleasant surpise in the regional playoff picture.

While there are the big three in this district with Roscoe, Albany and Winters, do npot count out the appearance of the Hamlin Pied Pipers in the race for the third and final playoff spot. The Pied Pipers will be pinning their hopes on one of the district's top defensive players in Markie Hall and a solid rusher in Robert Hall. If the Pied Pipers can overcome the depth issue and challenge the opposition to make a mistake, then expect Alan Steele's squad to be in the middle of the race to the last week of the regular season.
