Texas HS Football Preview Guide 2007

Preview Guide 2007
By Christopher Lyke
Texas HS Football Chief Editor

The 14-4A race seems to be a race that is fought on two fronts. The one at the top between South Oak Cliff and Dallas Kimball and the one in the middle between Pinkston and Seagoville. With that said, this district is expected to be much improved over last season's downward spiral.

South Oak Cliff is the most talented team in the district when it comes down to the writing on the wall. They also have the most depth and experience coming back for the 2007 season. Among those key talents includes three of the area's best defensive backs in Kydarian Wilkins, Nick Ramzy and Kevin Brent. The Bears also have a talented defensive end set with Arthur Jones and Jacquies Smith. Look for the defense to be the keys to SOC's success. On the offensive side, wideout Demetrius Fields and tight end James Smith are exoected to have breakout seasons. If the experience and talent plays to their capability, South Oak Cliff should have no problem making a solid playoff run and grabbing the district title.

Speaking of experience, look for Kimball to give South Oak Cliff all it can handle when it comes to the district title picture. RB Darionne Jones, who rushed for over 1,100 yards last season, returns for his senior season and expects to pick up right where he left off last season. A sizable and experienced line should help the Knights in more than just the running game. Defensively, the Knights bring back quite possibly the best player in the district in LB Chris Gipson. Other key defenive players includes Bennie Wright, DeMarkus Allen and Cordero Postell.

The batle for third may be the district more interesting race. Pinkston does not bring back a boat load, but from wha they do bring back, the Vikings have some solid talent in place to cause plenty of damage. Quarterback Antonio Higgins returns to the scene after picking up over 1,400 yards of air and 15 touchdowns. Two way stud Nathan Sowels also returns to help bring the Vikings into the playoffs. Defensively, look for Sowels to join DB Gerald Frazier and DE Shonquille Dorsey as the lleaders of a improving Viking defense. But it will be key for the trenches of both sides of the ball to stand up on two feet for this year's team tto make the playoffs.

The Vikings will be looking to hold off Seagoville, wich does have some good experience in its favor in the trenches but will be looking for help in the skill areas on both sides. The two best skill players on the Dragon rosters are junors working the offensive side of the ball. They are RB Ezedrick Evans and wideout Terrance Watson. Defensively, LB Montrey Lewis should give the Dragons a boost but he will have plenty of young guns looking towards him to help lead the way.
