The big storyline of 1-1A in 2007 could be the fact that every team in the district returns a vast majority of their starting cast. Therefore, a must improved and more competitive district race to keep an eye out for. The White Deer-Sunray battle at Buck Stadium in White Deer on the opening week of district play will set up the momentum for the rest of district play. The big key to the district race outside of the Sunray-White Deer contest will be what happens to the battle for third. Gruver, Booker and Vega all have a legitimate claim to say not only they can grab third but, make the district championship race rather interesting one.

White Deer , which finished one game behind Sunray for the district championship last season, brings back 17 of its 22 starters including quarterback Parker Petty, defensive tackle Cameron Armstrong and wideout Bryce Bennett. The big plus for the Bucks is having the district opener at Buck Stadium. If the Bucks can solve the Sunray offense and break through their defense, then there will be some special days ahead. Bucks quarterback Parker Petty has the size, skills and mentality to play at the next level. If he can give the team plenty of leadership, White Deer will see bigger things later in the season regardless of what happens against Sunray.

Sunray, out to defend its district title and make a deep run in the playoffs, will be turning to Colton Wilson, a sophomore, to pick up where Matt Whiteley left off. The key leader of the Bobcats is three-way player Tyler Pounds. If Sunray can make the adjustment, then they should be right back in the thick of the district and regional playoff picture. Defensively, Wilson should emerge as a new leader alongside Andrew Saenz, Pounds and Darren Bumpas. The defense for the Bobcats may in fact be better than it was over the past few years.

The battle for third should come between Gruver, Booker and Sunray. Rusher Chandler Miner is quite possibly the best play-maker in the district coming out of the backfield. With the playmaking ability, he will have plenty of experienced protection up front. Jake Wills and Lorenzo Torres will be, like that of Miner, key contributors on both sides of the ball.

Booker, despite being the smallest school in the district, should have plenty of depth and talent. Last season, the Kiowas fell from a 3-2 start to finishing 0-5 in district play, but Ron Pinckard's group have bigger and better hopes for the 2007 season. Looking to help get the Kiowas off the ground, junior Reed Parvin and FB/LB Sam Camacho are going to have to be big leaders and show heart and dedication on and off the field. If the Kiowas let an early mistake or letdown bring down, they will have a big hill to climb. Confidence could be the key to Booker's season.
