The SuperCenTex District features a state championship quality squad and four more teams that will be looking to making the playoffs a lock in their books. As always, the district doesn't fail to disappoint in terms of competitiveness and expectations. Gone from the district are Waco High and Copperas Cove, who have dropped to 4A, but how will the loss of Cove and Waco impact the way the rest of the district plays and prepares itself for a solid playoff run?

A&M Consolidated enters the 2006 season with a big target on their back and rightfully so. The Tigers do have one of the most talented squads in the state with a vast majority of their players returning from an 11-3 playoff team. One of the best kickers and punters in the nation, Matt Szymanski is back for his senior season, which should give the Tigers a big boost on offense, defense and special teams. On the offensive side of the ball, the Tigers bring back not one but two of the top players at their position with WR Detron Lewis and RB Daniel Palmer. Whichever quarterback starts for the Tigers, whether it is junior Kyle Gideon or sophomore Dominic Preston, there will be no shortage of skill and promise. If the Tigers promising offensive line can play to their capabilities there is no limit to what they will be able to do. On the defensive side of the ball for A&M Consolidated look for a very strong and skilled linebacking core to make a huge prescence on the field. Look for Abraham Daily out of the backfiled and Drew Dudley in the linebacker units to emerge as the keys to the Tiger defense.

The teams most likely to give the Tigers a good fight at the top are Bryan, Ellison, Shoemaker and Harker Heights. With a new head coach and the return of Bob Bellard to Bryan High, the Vikings will have plenty of excitement and expctations to build upon. With Evan Eike's return up front and Michael Terrell back as the key running back, the Vikings are bound to break the mold and return to the playoffs this season. Look for quarterback Clay Joseph to have a big year in terms of total offense. On the defensive side, DL Rodney Watts, and LB John McIntyre should be the key leaders to help the Vikings establish the firepower they need to challenge the Consolidated Tigers.

The Ellison Eagles have 16 starters back from a team that went three rounds deep in Class 4A. On the offensive side, look for junior Ivan Delgado to continue to improve with a strong running game and solid offensive line already implace. The dual threat quarterback will have a very talented defensive unt backing him as well. Dominique Robinson and Tyrone Crear are two of the big workhorses up front that have excellent hands and speed. But the leader of the Eagle defense will be Caesar Cobb at linebacker and Daniel Cobb in the backfield. The Eagles can compete, but at what extent can these Eagles handle the grind of Class 5A?

The Harker Heights Knights may be replacing its star quarterback and key linemen on both sides of the ball, but they still have a chance to compete with WR Nick Trice, Michael Tealer and LB DeJuan Fulghum. Nick Trice, a Texas A&M commit, will be one of the keys to a very promising Knight offense. On the defensive side, DeJuan Fulghum will be joined by DB Colby Lange and LB Bobby Cook. If the Knights can get a handle on the lines in terms of depth and experience, then they should easily be in the middle of a playoff race.

Temple and Belton will be looking to make drastic improvements on the field after posting sub-par seasons the last couple years. For the Temple Wildcats, there is a promising future ahead of them as the Wildcats should be vastly improved on both sides of the ball. A dual running back threat with Adrian Reaves-Brown and LaQuintin Idlebird may just do the trick to help the Wildcats find their way into contention and play a big spoiler role. If overlooked, the WIldcats could very easily steal a playoff spot. On defense look for Nico Curtis and Brandon Crafters to have big years at the end positions. The strength of the Temple defense however should be in the linebacking core with Chris Freeman and Ajuon Anderson returning.
