| District 14-4A Preview |

Texas HS Football Chief Editor
The buzz in this district will likely be which of the five teams can step up to the plate and make a challenge to the Kimball Knights. With the talent pool and the overall depth of every team within the district at a low level, things could very well get to be very interesting in one fashion or another. Another question about this district is whether or not the teams in this district can make a push to compete with teams outside of the Dallas ISD circle. It all remains to be seen and should have a big motivation factor in place for them.
Dallas Kimball in the 2006 season is the odds on favorite to retain its district championship status. With a total of 12 starters back, the Knights will be looking to not only take care of their district play, but make a push for a deeper run in the playoffs. Back in the saddle at quarterback will be Carlos Thomas, who threw for over 1,200 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2005. With the loss of Phillip Tanner, the Knights top receiver is now Ketavus Jones. The strength of the Knights will be on the defensive side of the ball as they not only return their top defensive back, but a solid junior linebacker that should be very entertaining to watch. DB Ryan Tennison, is with all indications, very likely the best player in the district by more than a mile. His ability to make the big play in the defensive backfield should be enough to give the Knights a boost in the overall regional playoff picture. Expect LB Chris Gipson to have a breakout season, which should help raise his stock in the recruiting fields.
South Oak Cliff, Seagoville and Pinkston should all be neck and neck for the district's final two playoff spots. South Oak Cliff, which has a brand new head coach, will be relying on a running game to help get them through offensively. With solid size and speed, James Wright should be the keys to the Bears chances. On defense, look for DB Kydarian Wilkins, to have a big year and give good comparison to that of Ryan Tennison in terms of production. If the Golden Bears are clicking correctly, then they should have enough gas to give Kimball a good run, but they will have to worry about the other four teams in the process,
Seagoville, like a majority of the teams within the district, are very young and inexperienced in many areas of the field, which should give the Dragons a boost in the district playoff race. With a solid offeensive line in place and a good linebacker to help lead the defense, Seagoville's chances of locking in a playoff spot should be right in the ballpark. The top player on the Seagoville roster should be junior offensive lineman Michael Green. If the offensive line give the skill players time to develope and in shape before district play, the Dragons could be an instant sleeper in the race.
Speaking of sleepers, the Pinkston Vikings will be looking to make a return trip back into the playoffs. For Pinkston, the talent to compete for a district playoff spot is right there in their hands, but it will be the depth that will ultimately decide how they will finish 2006. Quarterback Antonio Higgins returns to lead the offense after colect over 1,200+ yards through the air. It is a very young team that coach James Argenti has, but it is filled with a very promising future. |
