Last season, this particular district as 10-4A saw the Wilson Wildcats rule the roost with the dominant rushhing and playmaking abilities of Sergio Kindle. Kindle's performance is part of what some have called the reemergence of Dallas ISD to the football powerhouse scene. Just how far one of the DISD schools will go in 2006 is a brand new question in itself. One school that has been at the top for a majority of the last few years is the Lincoln Tigers. Lincoln and Wilson are what many could consider as DISD's 4A version of the Carter-Skyline rivalry. And for a majority of the most recent years, one school has dominated the rivalry in the win-loss record. But the question is, can Wilson continue to reverse that trend without Sergio Kindle at their disposal? On another note of interest within the district, Hillcrest lost its coach Clayton George to Haltom but picked up former Wilmer-Hutchins head coach Mike Robinson.

Looking over what the teams have in store for the 2006 season, starting with the Lincoln Tigers, the chances of reclaiming the district title after Wilson and Kindle stormed on to the scene is a very good possibility. The Tigers have what many would consider as the best defensive player in the state in DE Richetti Jones. In the 2005 season, Jones picked up 70+ tackles and a mindblowing 16 sacks. Along with Jones at defensive end, the Tigers will have a linebacking core that could ultimately become one of the best kept secrets in the state. Look for Kendrick Norah and Dewitt Frank to follow Jones in having a monster year. If the trio can maintain their expectations and goals, the Tigers could become more than just a DISD power in 2006. But the offense of the Tigers will also have to do its part in getting those goals accomplished. If Keith Hodge and Alonzo Shepard can show that they can improve the numbers they got in limited action, then the Tigers are on the right track.

Dallas Wilson will now have to deal with life after Sergio Kindle. With back up Rodney Malone and the emergence of Damien Washington, the transition phase begins. But all is not lost for the Wildcats. The do return quarterback Kevin Rusk to take the snaps offensively and standout linebacker Jack Hlavaty. Do not be shocked if the Wilson Wildcats find a way to repeat as the district champion. Rusk, a dual threat quarterback, will be looking find more room to help the offense produce while Hlavaty will be looking to repeat last year's stellar performance.

The race for third will likely come between Hillcrest, Spruce and Samuell. Samuell will have significant improvement in terms of depth and talent on both sides of the ball. But it is the offense that should see the biggest boost. The return of Dawaylon Cook at quarterback and star wide out Kevin Spikes should be a big help. Spikes could become a key prospect in the next year if he has a superb year that helps the Spartans see a playoff berth. Over on the defensive side, look for Spikes to be a big contributor in the back while Kevin Leal mans the front lines.

The Spruce Timberwolves, like that of the Samuell Spartans are expecting to see significant improvement in 2006. With more experience and plenty of young players mixed in with the upperclassmen, the Spartans have a nice recipe for a team that could be on the rise. On the offensive side, look for quarterback Darrion Lewis to emerge as the key leader. In 2005, Lewis passed for over 1,000 yards while RB Donielle Hill picked up 640 yards in the process. Lewis's other targets includes senior WR Colton Cervantes and TE Rufus Johnson. On the defensive side, with most of their top players as juniors, the Spartans have plenty of room grow. LB Dwayne Moten and Corneilius Hooper are big time playmakers that could help tip the balance of the district playoff race in their favor.

Hillcrest, who has a new head coach in Mike Robinson, will be looking to continue what Clayton George started as an improving program. With the return of WR Chris Tuck, the Panthers will have something to build on. And with quarterback Willie Taylor also back, Robinson will have some promising chances to help Hillcrest return to the playoffs. The concern on Hillcrest is likely to be on the defensive side. If they can heave through the losses on defense, the Panthers could be a solid playoff contender.

And although the Jefferson Patriots finished 2005 without a win, the chances of improvement is on the cusp with a new head coach in Mario De Santiago. If the Patriots are to findselves in the playoff hunt, it will be the leadership of two way player Jesus Martinez that gets them in. This year's group is much more experienced but can a coaching change be what they need to change the focus of this squad?
