| -Class of 2006 Top 200 - Offensive Linemen |
By Christopher Lyke
Texas HS Football Chief Editor
The most disrespected position on the field is the boys manning the front lines. They are the ones responsible for the running back making a mad dash down the field. They are the ones responsible for making sure the quarterback has the time to make a decision on where to pass or option. They are the ones who will make or break a season on a critical drive.
Stamina, strength, skills and size are the overwhelming intangibles of a heavily recruited offensive lineman. On many occasions an offensive lineman is also on the other side of the ball and on special teams giving them the "ironman" status. They rarely see their names in the paper or atop the list for game breaking performances, but if the offense produces, an offensive line will know, they have accomplished their job.
Looking at the list of who are the top offensive linemen to watch for this season, one could say, the state is loaded. Buddy Brumit of Garland, Jason Guillory of De Soto, J'Marcus Webb of North Mesquite and Kyle Smith of Mansfield Summit will all be the keys to their respective school's offensive production. Bottom line is, if they do not perform, the offense will not perform.
The list of players who have already committed to D-1 schools includes a list of seven schools. Texas has four with Buck Burnette of Wimberley, Steve Moore from Jersey Village, Roy Watts of Houston Worthing and J'Marcus Webb of North Mesquite. The Longhorns should not be far behind from getting even more commitments. Highland Park has recently had two commits off the line from Reid Prince going to Baylor and Chris Olsen committing to Texas Tech. |
