Pre-Draft Column: Who can we see on first day?
By Christopher Lyke

New York - It's the morning of the 2005 NFL Draft from right here in New York City. As some are aware, we have decided to take our coverage of the 2005 NFL Draft to the actual place of its occurance.

This year's coverage is being expanded with our recent acquisition of LouisianaPreps.com as we will be covering the draft activities of Texas and Louisiana high school football players to allow the Louisiana crowd a small taste of how we do things.

So what can we expect out of the first day? As anyone would say, its anyone's guess. What happens between Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers could dramatically affect several potential first rounders such as Midland Lee's Cedric Benson at running back, Waco's Derrick Johnson or Houston Westbury's Brodney Pool.

Pool, Benson, Johnson, Hemphill's Ben Wilkerson and Bishop Lynch's Ryan Moats are probably the most likely picks that we will see in the first two rounds. If there is a chance, we could even see Christian Life Academy's own Stephan LeFors land in the NFL before they close the books for the first day.

The wide receiver position for Texas and Louisiana players could be very active depending on what the demand is for new and fresh sets of hands. Same could be said along the offensive lines.

So now that we have gone over who we could see on day one get their NFL tickets punched, who could be the surprise of the first day?

Moats could be just the sleeper and surprise that will see a few decent years in the NFL depending on the offensive system and who picks up. Moats over the last few years has shown the heart and desire to play the game with pride, instincts and work ethic. The work ethic and pride alone could get him big numbers in the professional spotlight.

Now its nearly time for the 2005 NFL Drraft to begin.
