After three weeks of playoff action it's time to examine the playoffs and go inside the numbers. Just how have the first, second, third and fourth place teams faired throughout the 2009 post-season? We'll break it all down right here and we will take it a step further.. broken down region by region then give you an overall perspective on the numbers from top to bottom. See the selected charts below for the breakdown of how the teams are doing according to their respective district finishes and see who among the third and fourth place teams are still standing and playing in the month of December.
In class 5A, only Kingwood, Edinburg and Pflugerville came up with wins out of the fourth place slots. In 4A, the fourth place teams had some better luck but again, like 5A, the wins among the fourth place teams are few and far between them. Of the 4A fourth place teams earning victories only Sulphur Springs, a defending state champion, is still alive. The other victors include EP Irvin, Wolfforth Frenship, Corsicana, Waller, Houston Waltrip (advanced by forfeit), Schertz Clemens and Frisco Liberty. Frisco Liberty was coincidentally eliminated by Sulphur Springs. The Sulphur Springs-Frisco Liberty match was the first time two fourth place teams ever faced one another in Texas HS Football Playoff history.
